04 — Behind the rooms
The kitchen is where layout, joinery, stone, appliances and light all meet in one room. We design them together, so the island sits where people actually gather and every drawer earns its place.

Homeowners renovating a kitchen that no longer fits the household, owners building new who want the kitchen resolved before the builder’s standard selections arrive, and anyone planning a wider home renovation where the kitchen is the anchor.
A good kitchen is rarely about one hero finish. It works because the distance from fridge to bench to cooktop is comfortable, the island leaves room to pass, the bin and dishwasher sit beside the sink, and the stone you love is suited to the way you cook.
Our kitchen design covers the layout and island placement, joinery and storage planning, benchtops, splashbacks and cabinetry finishes, appliance and fixture integration, and the lighting that makes the room usable after dark. On the Gold Coast we also think about glare from big windows, sea air on hardware, and how the kitchen opens to the living room and deck.
Because these choices affect each other, we resolve them as a single scheme rather than a series of separate showroom visits.

Two parallel runs. Efficient in narrow footprints and townhouses; the width between benches decides whether two people can cook at once.
Two walls meeting at a corner, leaving the floor open to dining. Corner storage needs careful joinery so it isn’t wasted.
A freestanding bench for prep, seating or a cooktop. Its size, clearances and whether it holds the sink shape how the whole living area flows.
A working room behind the main kitchen for appliances, prep and mess, so the island stays clear for entertaining.

We start with a consultation about who uses the kitchen, what you store, and where the view and light fall.
Layout options are tested against clearances, workflow and the connection to living and outdoor areas, drawing on our space planning.
Cabinetry, benchtops, splashback, tapware and appliances are selected as one palette, with colour and material selection tying the kitchen to the rest of the house.
The resolved design is set out in design documentation so your builder and joiner work from the same information. The wider stages are explained on our design process page.
Yes. A kitchen can be a standalone project, though we will always consider how it opens to the adjoining living, dining and outdoor spaces.
No. Without enough clearance an island becomes an obstacle. A peninsula or a well-planned galley can work better in tighter rooms.
Ideally while plans are still flexible, so plumbing, power and window positions suit the layout. See new build interior design.
Layout changes that move services, the extent of custom joinery, stone choice and appliance level all matter. Our article on what affects interior design costs explains the factors.
