11 — Behind the rooms
Walls, floors and joinery give a room its structure. Decoration makes it feel lived in. We layer curtains, rugs, cushions, throws, art and objects so each room feels finished and suits the light and the household.

Decoration covers anything you can change without a builder. It works best once the structure and colours and materials are settled, because every layer responds to them.
Sheers, linen curtains, blinds and shutters decide how the Gold Coast sun comes into a room. We choose fabric weight, lining and track position for glare, privacy and the view.
We size rugs so they hold the furniture together. Cushions, throws and bed linen add texture, and we lean on natural fibres that cope with humidity, sand and bare feet.
We place art and mirrors to scale with the wall and the furniture below. Ceramics, books and greenery come last and stay few, so the room has room to breathe.
Cream seating, a timber table and a few sculptural pieces layered in a living room that opens onto a courtyard.

It suits homeowners whose layout already works but whose rooms feel bare or mismatched. It also suits people who have just finished a renovation or new build and are living with empty walls and bare windows.
If you would rather move walls or replace cabinetry, start with residential interior design. You can add decoration once that work is done.
iii. How it comes together
Step 1
We look at the light, the fixed finishes and the furniture you want to keep, and ask how each room is used.
Step 2
Fabrics, rug options, an art direction and accessories are gathered into one scheme so you can see the whole room.
Step 3
We adjust the scheme with you, then finalise the pieces, sizes and quantities for each window, floor and wall.
Step 4
Art is hung, rugs are laid and each surface is styled. The full stages are set out on our design process page.
iv.
One room first. Start with the living room or main bedroom, and use that scheme to guide the rest of the house.
The whole home. One decorative thread from the entry to the deck, with each room given its own character.
Decoration with furniture. Pair it with Furniture Selection & Styling or a Furniture Package so every piece is chosen together.
Decoration with lighting. Lamps and shades work best when they are planned with Lighting & Finishes.
Interior design can change layouts, joinery and fixed finishes. Decoration works with what is already there and adds the layers that can be moved or replaced later.
Yes. Favourite art, a good rug or an inherited cabinet often becomes the starting point for the scheme.
No. We use texture, natural fibres and restrained colour rather than themed props. Our journal piece on refined coastal interiors explains the approach.
We work with homes across the Gold Coast, from Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads to Robina and Hope Island. See our service areas.
