03 — Behind the rooms

Home Renovation Design Gold Coast

Your house already has a front door, a view and habits built into it. We design the renovation around what’s there: we decide what stays, rethink how the rooms connect and update the kitchen, bathrooms and finishes so the house works as one.

Service overview

Keep what works. Rework what doesn't.

A renovation starts with an honest walk through the house

Many Gold Coast homes have good bones and rooms that no longer suit the people living in them. The kitchen may face away from the garden, the bathroom may be tight, or the living area may lose the afternoon light. Home renovation design looks at the whole house before any wall comes down.

We start by working out what’s worth keeping: the structure, the windows, good joinery and floors that only need refinishing. Then we rework the flow from the entry to the back deck. The kitchen, bathrooms and finishes are planned as one direction rather than a series of separate upgrades, so the renovated rooms sit comfortably with the rest of the house.

Who it suits

Owners of existing homes across the Gold Coast, from beachside cottages to family houses further inland.

You’ve bought an older home
and want to update it before moving in, without losing the character that made you buy it.

Your family has outgrown the layout
and you need more storage, a better kitchen or a second living space.

You’re renovating in stages
and want each stage to fit into a plan for the whole house.

You’re working with a builder
and need clear design decisions and documentation before trades begin.

Process

How a renovation is designed

Step 1

Walk-through and brief

We go through the house together, note what stays and set out what the renovation needs to fix.

Step 2

Layout and flow

We test space planning options: moving openings, rearranging rooms and adding storage where it matters.

Step 3

Materials, joinery and light

Surfaces, colours, fixtures and lighting are chosen together so new work suits what you’ve kept.

Step 4

Documentation for trades

We turn the decisions into design documentation that builders can price and build from. See our full design process →

Design options

Renovate one room or the whole path through the house

The scope can be one room or the whole house. Each option connects to a dedicated service, and the Projects page gathers design references for each space.

Kitchen and living

Moving the island toward the view, opening the kitchen to the living area and replacing tired cabinetry. See Kitchen Design and Custom Joinery Design.

Entry and flow

Clearing the way from the front door to the deck, and adding a drop zone and storage for coastal life. See Space Planning.

Bathrooms and ensuites

Reworking tight layouts, tiling and fixtures, and choosing surfaces that suit a humid climate. See Bathroom Design.

Finishes throughout

New flooring, paint and lighting that tie old and new rooms together. See Colour & Material Selection and Lighting & Finishes.

Renovation questions

Should design come before choosing a builder?

It helps. When the layout, finishes and fixtures are already decided, builders are pricing the same clear scope, and fewer decisions are left to be made on site.

Can we renovate one room now and more later?

Yes. A whole-house direction lets the first room set the palette and plan for the rooms that follow, so later stages don’t clash with earlier ones.

What decides the cost of renovation design?

The number of rooms, how much the layout changes and the level of documentation needed. Our guide to what affects interior design costs explains each factor.

Is furniture part of a renovation?

It can be. Furniture Selection & Styling can follow on so the finished rooms feel complete. More answers are on the FAQ page.

Which room needs to change first?

Before you book, read Home Renovation Ideas for Gold Coast Homes. Then tell us about the house and the room that isn’t working. We work across the Gold Coast, from Southport and Robina to Burleigh Heads and Palm Beach.
