08 — Behind the rooms

Furniture Selection & Styling Gold Coast

A sofa that’s 20 centimetres too deep can block a walkway, and a rug that’s too small makes a room feel unfinished. We choose furniture to suit the room’s size, how your household lives and the rest of the house. Then we place and style each piece so the room feels complete.

In scope

From an empty floor to a finished room

We can help with one living room or a whole house. The work sits between space planning, which decides where things go, and interior decoration, which adds the final layers.

Furniture plans: pieces drawn to scale, with room to walk around them
Selections: sofas, dining, beds, occasional and outdoor pieces
Fabric and finish: upholstery, timber and metal chosen to suit the palette
Rugs, lamps and art: sized and placed for each space
Placement and styling: arranging each room once the pieces arrive

Who it suits

When the building work is done but the rooms still don't feel settled

New homes. You’re moving into a new build with open-plan spaces and nothing in them yet.

Renovations. After a renovation, the old furniture no longer suits the new layout or finishes.

Coastal living. Your home has a deck, sea air and strong sun, so fabrics and materials need to hold up.

Keeping favourites. You own pieces you love and want new ones chosen to sit well beside them.

From brief to placement

Here are the four stages. The full studio approach is on our design process page.

01

Brief and measure

We learn how each room is used, what you’re keeping and what fits your budget. Then we measure the walls, openings, windows and power points.

02

Layout and direction

We draw the furniture to scale and put together a style direction that suits your finishes.

03

Selection

We present a shortlist of pieces with their sizes, fabrics and finishes, and we flag anything that won’t cope with sun, humidity or salt air. You approve each piece before anything is ordered.

04

Placement and styling

We arrange the furniture, rugs, lamps and art in each room. Then we adjust until the sightlines, walkways and daylight all work together.

Ways to work with us

Choose how much of the room we take on

Selection only. A scaled furniture plan and a list of chosen pieces, ready for you to order.

Selection and styling. We choose the pieces, then come back to place them and add rugs, lamps and cushions once everything arrives.

A complete room package. We choose and coordinate everything a room needs. If you’d like a fully furnished home, see furniture packages.

Built-in pieces such as window seats, media units and shelving are designed through custom joinery, so the loose furniture can be sized around them.

Questions

More answers are in our interior design FAQs.

Can you work with furniture we already own?

Yes. We measure the pieces you’re keeping and include them in the plan, then choose new pieces to suit them.

How do you choose fabrics for a coastal home?

We think about sun exposure, humidity, sand and how the room is used, then pick fabrics and finishes that will last in those conditions. Our coastal interiors article explains more.

Is styling worth it without new furniture?

Often it is. Moving pieces around, resizing rugs and adding better lamps can change how a room feels. Read layering a finished room for a starting point.
